Strapping can be applied loosely to hold the arm or hand in close proximity to the activity.  

Tight strapping can limit movement at a proximal joint to assist with function at a distal joint, e.g. strapping an elbow may assist with more accurate flexion/extension of the wrist to activate a switch...

 

    


Posterior elbow block no strap
    
Lateral arm block with strap
Two blocks on either side of the forearm, with strap across top, allows movement but limits large, uncontrolled movements.
